8:00 PM @ The Golden Gecko -- Friday, April 4
Rick Launer, the Ambassador of the Republic of Texas club, spends his days at Alamo reenactments and haranguing US mailmen to get off Texas soil. But when he takes things too far, he"s jailed and kicked out of his beloved club. Out on bail and a warrant on his head, he manipulates a group of paranoid eccentrics to protect him from the hand of the "oppressive government." Rick must confront what it takes to be a true leader, as a modern day Alamo unfolds on national television.

Let's be honest, given the dysfunctional state of government, who hasn't dreamed of seceding from America at least once? Well, back in 1998, Rick Launer didn't just dream of it, he drew a line in the sand and launched his own war for Texas independence. And unlike most wars, this one's hilarious. The Republic of Rick is not only the best political satire I've seen in years, it's a modern day Don Quixote. Rick is delusional, and his quest is hopeless, but his manic dedication to the cause has you quickly rooting for Texas to be freed from the grip of federal tyranny. Long live the republic!
